Production: Saw palmetto is a hardy, short palm plant that grows in the subtropical climates of the Southeastern United States. The stalk of the plant has fine, sharp teeth, which give it its name.
Qualities: According to some studies, saw palmetto may be effective in decreasing symptoms of an enlarged prostate, and is used alongside other herbs to treat certain prostate infections. Saw palmetto is also used for relief of cold symptoms, coughs, sore throat, and headaches, as well as as a natural diuretic and to promote relaxation.
Common Use: Saw palmetto berries have a distinctive aroma that is described as soapy and slightly acrid. They can be dried and cut or powdered for use in teas, tinctures, and encapsulations.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in a sealed container.
