Chemical Name: KHC4H4O6
GMO-free
Ingredients: Potassium Bitartrate
Country of Origin: Spain
Production: Interestingly enough, cream of tartar is a by-product of the process of making wine. It's found in the sediment left behind in barrels after the wine has been fermented, then getting purified into the powdery white substance that we use in baking.
Qualities: Cream of Tartar is a colorless crystalline or white powdery solid with a pleasant, slightly acidic taste.
Common Use: A versatile product for both the kitchen and the household, cream of tartar has a multitude of uses. Traditionally, it’s used in baking when whipping egg whites - it helps speed up the creation of foam and maintains the fluffiness ideal for meringues and similar desserts. It can also be used as a leavening agent in baking - you can substitute a blend of baking soda and cream of tartar for baking powder: 1 tsp baking powder is equivalent to 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 1/2 tsp cream of tartar. You can also add it to boiled vegetables to help retain their color. Around the house, it makes a great metal polish - ideal for bowls and pots that have been scratched by knives or other utensils!
Storage: When stored in a cool, dry container, cream of tartar should be usable indefinitely.

Cream of Tartar
Product is lovely. I appreciate the bulk.I use it primarily for making poached eggs. A tiny amount helps the whites hold their form.I also use it to make snickerdoodle cookies - yum.
Homemade baking powder
We love the cream of tartar and buy it a pound or two at a time. Making our own baking powder is one simple way we can ensure that we are eating quality foods. We make it using 2 parts cream of tartar, 1 part baking soda, and one part starch ( tapioca, arrowroot, or corn). Some of our diets don’t allow for corn products and baking powder often has corn starch. This way, we pick! You can skip the starch all together if you’d like!
Many benefits
Cream of Tartar has healing benefits from infection to acne. I have looking for the Tartar Tablets like my mom used, but have not been able to locate any. I purchased the powder, hoping it's healing properties are the same. I just recently received it, so I have nothing to report with the powder form. I will update my review later on
cream of tartar, gmo-free
I use cream of tartar to make my own homemade baking powder for all my baked goods. Single Acting Baking Powder: 1/4 cup cream of tartar, 2 tablespoons baking soda, and 3 tablespoons of arrowroot powder, mix all together well, and store in an airtight container.
